The big differences from standard German

  1. No simple past: the whole past is said in the Perfekt (i bi gange, i ha gässe).
  2. No genitive: you say « vom Maa » or « em Maa sis Auto » (the man's car).
  3. Nominativ and Akkusativ have the same form: « de Maa » is subject or direct object. Only the Dativ changes (em Maa).
  4. The future is said in the present with a time word (Morn gang i uf Bärn).
  5. The relative pronoun is always « wo » (de Maa, wo do schaffet).
  6. Small -li words everywhere (es Hüüsli, es Gipfeli) and many Swiss words (poschte, Velo, Znüni).

Geschter bin i id Stadt gange.

Das isch em Maa sis Auto.

Morn gang i uf Bärn.
