Why don't people say “yo”? The verb ending already shows the person: Hablo español. — I speak Spanish. You add the pronoun only to stress or contrast: Yo trabajo, ¿y tú? — I'm working, what about you?

usted / ustedes = polite “you”, with the verb in the 3rd person: ¿Cómo está usted? — How are you? In Latin America, ustedes also replaces vosotros among friends: ¿Ustedes vienen? — Are you (all) coming? In Argentina and Uruguay you hear vos instead of tú: vos tenés.

After a preposition: para mí, sin ti, con él. With con: conmigo, contigo. Exceptions: entre tú y yo, según tú.
