The endings are always -m, -š, -Ø, -mo, -te + 3rd plural. What changes is the vowel: a, i or e. The 3rd person plural tells you the class.
| -a- class čitati (read) | -i- class raditi (work) | -e- class pisati (write) | |
|---|---|---|---|
| ja | čitam | radim | pišem |
| ti | čitaš | radiš | pišeš |
| on / ona | čita | radi | piše |
| mi | čitamo | radimo | pišemo |
| vi | čitate | radite | pišete |
| oni | čitaju | rade | pišu |
Common irregulars: ići → idem, ideš… idu; doći → dođem; jesti → jedem; moći → mogu, možeš, može, možemo, možete, mogu; htjeti → hoću, hoćeš… hoće. Mogu and hoću are the only ones ending in -u in the 1st person.
Uses to note: the present is also used for the near future (Sutra putujem. — I'm travelling tomorrow.) and for an action still going on: Učim bosanski već dvije godine. — I have been learning Bosnian for two years.
