Past perfect, Future I and Future II

Plusquamperfekt

hatte or war + past participle: the same auxiliary as in the Perfekt, but in the Präteritum. It's « the past of the past »: the action happened before another past action. Often with nachdem, als, schon.

Als wir am Bahnhof ankamen, war der Zug schon abgefahren.

When we got to the station, the train had already left.

Nachdem ich gegessen hatte, ging ich spazieren.

After I had eaten, I went for a walk.

With nachdem, shift one tense back: nachdem + Plusquamperfekt → Präteritum; nachdem + Perfekt → Präsens (Nachdem ich gegessen habe, gehe ich spazieren).

Futur I

werden + infinitive. But for a plain future, German prefers the present with a time word (Morgen fahre ich nach Zürich). The Futur I is mainly used for:

Er wird wohl im Büro sein.

He's probably at the office.

Futur II

werden + past participle + haben / sein. An action that will be finished at a point in the future, or (more often) an assumption about the past.

Bis Freitag werde ich den Bericht geschrieben haben.

By Friday I will have written the report.

Sie wird den Zug verpasst haben.

She must have missed the train.
