- Short pronouns first, right after the verb, in the order nominative → accusative → dative: Gestern hat er es ihr gegeben.
- Pronoun before noun: Ich gebe es meinem Bruder. Ich gebe ihm das Buch. (Two nouns: dative then accusative.)
- The reflexive pronoun comes early, often even before a noun subject: Heute freut sich mein Bruder.
- Adverbials: TeKaMoLo — temporal (wann?), kausal (warum?), modal (wie?), lokal (wo? wohin?). A tendency, not a law. Note that English usually does the opposite (place before time).
- Known before new: what you're already talking about (pronoun, der / die / das) comes before new information (ein, kein, no article), which tends to go towards the end.
Ich habe es ihm gestern gesagt.
I told him (it) yesterday.
Wir fahren am Samstag wegen des Wetters mit dem Auto in die Berge.
On Saturday, because of the weather, we're driving to the mountains. (Te – Ka – Mo – Lo)
