Mixed conditionals combine an unreal past with an unreal present (or the reverse):

if-clausemain clauseexample
past perfect (past)would + base (now)If I had taken the job, I would be rich now.
past simple (always / now)would have + participle (past)If I spoke German, I would have understood him yesterday.

wish / if only work like conditionals, one tense back:

I wish I had more time (now). — I wish I had studied harder (past). — I wish you would stop talking (annoyance, wish for change).

Also with a past form for the present: It's time we left. I'd rather you stayed.
