ne goes before the conjugated verb, or before the whole verb group: Ne mogu doći. — I can't come.
Fused words: nisam (biti), nemam (imati), neću (htjeti). In the perfekat, nisam replaces sam: Nisam došao.
Double negation is compulsory: niko / nitko (nobody), ništa (nothing), nikad(a) (never), nigdje (nowhere), nijedan (none), nikako (not at all) + negated verb: Niko ne zna. — Nobody knows. Ništa ne razumijem. — I don't understand anything.
With a preposition, ni- splits off: ni s kim (with nobody), ni o čemu (about nothing), ni od koga (from nobody): Ni s kim nisam razgovarao. — I didn't talk to anybody.
ni … ni (neither … nor): Nemam ni vremena ni novca. — I have neither time nor money.
ni = not even: Ni ja ne znam. — I don't know either.
još ne / još nisam = not yet; više ne = no longer: Još nisam jeo. — I haven't eaten yet. Više ne pušim. — I don't smoke any more.
nemoj for “don't” (see the imperative) and nema + G for “there isn't”.
